Tony Dixon

Tony comes from Todmorden, West Yorkshire, where he started playing cornet at the age of 9, eventually becoming principal cornet of Todmorden Old Brass Band.

In 1976 he joined the Band of the Irish Guards, rising to Sergeant before leaving in 1994 to go freelance. During his military service he also performed in West End productions including Starlight Express, Jolson, Guys ‘n’ Dolls, Grease, Fame, The Rat Pack and Sinatra.

After leaving the military he joined Chris Smith’s String of Pearls Orchestra as lead trumpet, and has since worked with the Glenn Miller Orchestra (UK), the Mike Westbrook Orchestra, Back to Basie, Echoes of Ellington, Skin Deep and others.

Tony joined the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in 2000 and was promoted to Lead Trumpet in January 2006.
